On October 18, the annual Pumpkin Fair had its 32nd year of success in the Dobbs Ferry Community! The Dobbs Ferry PTSA hosted the fair on the campus of Springhurst Elementary School, per tradition. It ran from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm on a chilly Saturday, perfectly suited for the Fall mood. This year, the fair was aided by the sponsors Climbing Wolf, Rivertowns Pediatrics, and Club Pilates Ardsley; a big thanks for their contributions!
The Pumpkin Fair at Springhurst is a long-standing tradition in Dobbs Ferry, where the whole town and others from neighboring villages can gather together for a day of festivity and fundraising. This event is a source of great pride for Dobbs, as it emphasizes the importance of community. We see this through the student, parent, teacher, and community volunteers who make the event possible, showing up at 8:00 am to set up for the day and staying for the 2:00 pm clean-up shift. We also saw families and friends come to enjoy the day and gather together to participate in the activities offered. This fair is one of the many ways that the townspeople contribute to fun events for the village, all while raising money for the PTSA and the school district. Events like these not only emphasize the efforts and hours that volunteers put in, but they also showcase creativity and the unique talents of individuals within our town.
The festivities of the Pumpkin Fair include games, food concessions, a pie and chili contest, and, of course, decorating the pumpkins. Sports that were offered included basketball, scootering, bowling, baseball, a bounce house, and football, which were enjoyed by many of those who attended. These games were perfect for the young children who attended, providing a fun activity for them to play with friends and meet new people. Also available was the fan-favorite face-painting table, offering special paintings by a mix of student and adult volunteers. In terms of food, many volunteers came together before the fair to make baked goods such as cupcakes, brownies, and muffins. Freshly grilled food, including hot dogs, hamburgers, and pizza were also for sale. Some of the attendees even came ready with their Halloween spirit, showing off their creative costumes while the DJ played well-suited Halloween music.
The 32nd annual Pumpkin Fair proved to be a great success and a perfect segue into the Fall season. Still going strong after more than three decades, the Pumpkin Fair remains a treasured tradition of Dobbs Ferry, with both volunteers and attendees showing pride and love for the community.
