October brings many exciting events to the Dobbs Ferry High School, particularly to the sports community. Homecoming week of 2025 took place throughout the week of October 6th, consisting of games for each of the fall varsity sports: volleyball, football, and boys’ and girls’ soccer.
The first match, volleyball homecoming, was an impressive win for the Eagles, who were matched up against the Irvington Bulldogs. Dobbs took the first set 25-13, lost the second set 23-25, but was able to seal the game in sets 3 and 4, winning 25-11 and 25-18, respectively. This game added to the girls’ outstanding record of 12-1. Junior Alexis Daroczy says, “Homecoming always feels like a wave of emotions, one moment we’re laughing and having fun, and the next we are completely locked in and focused on the game”. Prior to the match, Coach Patty Duane was honored for her 25 years of coaching volleyball at Dobbs Ferry. Her players gave heartfelt speeches, showing their appreciation for the coach who has stood by them for their entire varsity volleyball careers.
On October 10th, one of the most anticipated events of the week, the homecoming football game, took place. The Dobbs Ferry Eagles faced off against the Irvington Bulldogs and won in a landslide. Junior Killian O’Connor scored 3 touchdowns, leading the scoring for the night. Senior captain Nastiek Smith trailed not far behind, with a total of 2 touchdowns for the evening. Fellow captains Ryan Mohl, Dylan Ravage, and Jackson Kearns each scored their own touchdown as well. Mohl ran for his touchdown, while Ravage, who also got an interception, took a kickoff return the distance in the second half. Junior Matthew O’Leary made his contributions to the win on the defensive side of the ball with his two fumble recoveries. The Eagles dominated both offensively and defensively for the majority of the night, finishing with the final score of 48-7.
The Dobbs Ferry Boys Varsity Soccer homecoming took place on October 11, and was against Blindbrook at the Springhurst turf. The student section was packed, and the tensions were high. The boys did not disappoint, keeping up the energy and winning the game 3-0 with seniors Luke Conneely (27) and Evan Schwartz (11) scoring goals alongside underclassman Felipe Bettancourt (20). Captain Christopher Doherty reflects on the night, saying that “Homecoming went really well; it felt really good to see everyone get on the field and enjoy the event,”. As a senior, he felt that “It was definitely a little bit sad for it to be our last homecoming, but it was nice to end it off with a win in front of a bunch of people and all of the parents,”. It’s safe to say the boys made their homecoming a fun game for both themselves and their audience.
The Dobbs Ferry Girls Varsity Soccer team competed against Gorton later that night. Starting at 7 pm, the Eagles took on the Wolves under the lights. In an epic shutout, Dobbs Ferry defeated Gorton 12-0. Senior captain Tessa Hunt scored 3 goals, leading the team for the night, along with sophomore Phoebe Walker, who also scored 3. Sophomore Chella Galleta kicked 2 of her own into the net. Captains Angela Crowe and Claire Turner each scored a goal, as well as senior Mira Romano. Finally, freshman Bridget Turner filled the score sheet with a goal of her own, bringing a close to the Eagles’ fierce offense. On the other side of the pitch, captain and goalie Samira Phillips and freshman goalie Juliet Curanovic took turns keeping the Wolves at bay, each contributing to the shutout. Junior captain Claire Turner comments, “I was so happy with the result on homecoming. We had so many different scorers, including a few of our freshmen’s first goals. It was such a fun game to play.” Overall, the night was one to remember for everyone on the Varsity team, especially for the freshmen, who scored some of their first goals, and the seniors who celebrated their last homecoming.
On the whole, homecoming week for the Dobbs Ferry Eagles was a celebratory time. With 4 straight wins in an array of sports, the Eagles made their school proud. With goals from new members of the teams, to the honoring of coaches, the 2025 Homecoming week was a whirlwind of emotions and accomplishments for the Eagles.
